HEREFORD Stampede are looking for new players as they prepare for their first league season.

The season begins in April but the club begin their training schedule this Sunday, January 12, with the first of three rookie days on consecutive Sundays aimed at bringing in new playing talent to the team.

Head coach Paul Kent said: “Most people that are new to the sport and come along for the first time fall in love with the game because it ticks at least one of so many boxes.

"Whatever you are looking for, whether it's the physicality of making big tackles, the skill of carrying, throwing or catching the ball, the tactical challenge of out-thinking your opponents or even just to make a bunch of new friends if you are new to the area and get fit in the process.

"There is already a great core group of guys here but we are always on the lookout for more players. Just the nature of this wonderful sport evokes a team spirit where everybody supports and encourages each other, like no other sport I know. We pride ourselves on inclusiveness.”

All three sessions are completely free and the club will provide all the equipment you need. Just bring a gum shield, football or rugby boots and some enthusiasm.

The rookie days run from 10.30am to 1pm on Sunday, January 12, 19 and 26 at Greyhound Rugby Club on Grandstand Road, Hereford.
