HEREFORD FC have signed experienced midfielder Stephen Dawson from Bury to booster their squad, subject to the relevant clearances being received by the English Football League (EFL) and FA.

The 33-year-old, from Dublin, has made nearly 500 Football League appearances and played Leicester City, Mansfield Town, Leyton Orient, Barnsley, Rochdale and Scunthorpe.

He was under Russell Slade at Leyton Orient and was Bury’s captain until their demise at the start of the season.

He was unable to play in today’s game against Bradford (Park Avenue) while his registration was confirmed.

“Unfortunately, due to the complex situation with Dawson’s most recent club being Bury FC, the relevant paperwork hasn’t been received in time for today’s game at Bradford (PA),” Hereford manager Russell Slade told the club’s website.

“However, we fully expect to receive clearance shortly.

“I’ve worked with Stephen before and he is someone who will bring a great deal of knowledge and experience into the team.

“He’s a player who can really drive us forward during games, he’s a leader out on the pitch, he’s got a great tempo, fantastic attitude and can be a real influence on games.”
