AN estimated 2,400 visitors to Mortimer Park enjoyed a day full of competitions at Luctonians' annual Sundogs Festival last weekend.

After a ‘pre-battle’ party on the Friday night, the five sporting events started in earnest Saturday morning, with a ladies hockey, ladies rugby, men's social rugby sevens, men's competitive rugby sevens and men's elite rugby sevens competition's providing a variety of sporting offerings for 38 teams and 460 visiting players.

The ladies hockey was an extremely competitive tournament containing sides from eight local clubs.

Leominster Ladies ran out eventual winners, pipping Kington Ladies in an exciting final.

Over in the touch rugby competition, Cheltenham Ladies ran out winners for the third successive season as they beat one of the three Luctonians Ladies sides in the competition, Live and Let Try, in the final to retain their title.

In the social sevens, a Bucknell Barbarians side containing a number of Luctonians players, snuck a three point win over Bowmen 7s Social side in the final.

In the competitive tournament there was more heartache for the Bowmen outfit, as their other side went down to Cheltenham based Petelo Allstars in an entertaining final.

Finally the elite sevens competition saw an all-South Walian final as Gogerddan Raiders went up against PC Allstars, and it was the former who retained their 2018 title 26-14 in the final, to scoop the £1,000 prize pot.

For visitors to the Mortimer Park there was a host of stalls and live music late into the night.
