FATHER and son duo Rob and Dave Fish came out on top at Ludlow Golf Club’s ‘Pros Invitation Day’, which raised a whopping £1,300 for charity.

The betterball Stableford competition attracted more than 120 participants but no team could better the 45-point total posted by the Fish family.

They finished a point clear of visiting runners-up Barry Crutchley and Charles Staite.

There was a three-way tie for third place as Peter Monk and Phil Kinder, Paul Mear and Harry Burgoyne, and Leigh Northwood and Brian Loose all finished on 43 points.

The event raised money for the club’s chosen charities, Hospice At Home and the British Heart Foundation.

In other club news, Andrew MacWhirter and Mark Littlejohns were crowned winners of the Seniors Texas Pairs competition with a nett 61.

They pipped the second-placed pairing of Andy Watters and Roger Painter, who returned a net 61.67, with John Adams and Dave Simpson taking third place, with their nett 63.

During the event, Graham Lane holed his tee shot for an ace on the fourth hole.

Home advantage helped Jane Arnsby and Tony Womack win the Open Mixed Greensomes, an event which featured competitors from as far afield as Brecon, Harlech, Birmingham and even Fife.

The duo’s better back nine saw their 38 points pip Margaret Leake and Malcolm Weaver into second place.

Jane and Tony also won the Ron Jones Salver, awarded to the best Ludlow pairing in this event.

Finally, Astrid James and Brenda Patrick won the Ladies’ Foursomes Cup with 29 points, a point ahead of runners-up Judy Plant and Margaret Gosling.
