DESPITE suffering from injuries and unavailability towards the end of the season Hereford Squash Tennis and Racketball Centre (HSTRC) squash first team took third place following a successful campaign in the Worcester Squash League.

Playing in Division One the Hereford side, sponsored by Wye Valley Brewery, completed a very good season eventually finishing third with 14 wins from 18 matches.

Hereford looked on course for a strong second place finish until the strains of the season had an impact resulting in them losing their final three matches allowing Barnt Green to pass them.

Stourport were convincing league champions but faced a tough battle at Hereford in the Worcestershire Cup semi-final before eventually winning 4-1.

Tom Burton lost the opening match 3-1 after losing a very tight first game 16-18.

Nick Hyett got Hereford back on track and played exceptionally well to defeat Steve Cole 3-1

However, Nick McGrath lost another tight match 3-2 to Chris Granger which was not helped after he suffered a broken string in the fifth.

Finally Lee Bartlett and Jack Bishop put up good performances before going down 3-0.
