WELLINGTON manager Gary Stevens was left to pick four teenagers after player availability was once again an issue during a trip to Wednesfield.

After being left short on players Stevens had to play two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds in his side while forwards Matt James and Sam Pearson played in the back four.

Despite Wednesfield taking a ninth minute lead Stevens' side responded with Saul Thomas equalising seven minutes later.

However, the hosts scored either side of half-time and ran away with the points.

"It was disappointing as the players put in an awful lot of effort so it was a bit unfortunate that we gave them two goals," said Stevens.

"Really a draw would have probably been a fairer result.

"We were a little bit short in different areas of the pitch and had to shuffle. It has been a common theme in any game with me this season and I thought it was getting better but it has been poor.

"The team has changed week on week and it's just ridiculous. We have had to play different players in different positions and you can't do that.

"These boys don't get paid to play so if they get the chance to work they do and I accept that. But we can't get the same pattern of play when you are changing so many players in the team.

"We only had one centre-half on Saturday and two of the back four were actually strikers."

Wellington will also be without George Hayes for the rest of the season after he signed for promotion chasing Malvern Town

Meanwhile, Stevens' side face an away trip to Wem Town this weekend before visiting Cradley Town the following week.

Stevens says that he needs the commitment of players to improve to challenge the top sides in the West Midlands Premier.

"We have had some positive performances with just our bare 11 but we need to be more consistent and can't be as up and down like we are," he added.

"One week we are brilliant and the next week we are struggling to get a side out. We can't get the consistency and I don't know week in and week out how we are going to perform.

"We are also not helped by suspensions which is self-inflicted and players really need to look at what they are getting sent off for.

"We will struggle through to the end of the season but I would have liked to have been pushing for a top four spot, but you can't do that with the level of commitment at the minute.

"We have got some excellent players but the problem is that they are not all together all of the time. Until that happens we won't have a team performance."

Meanwhile basement side Pegasus Juniors continue to struggle and were beaten 3-0 at home by Dudley Sports.
