HEREFORD Head Coach Marc Richards hopes that their 3-1 victory over FC United of Manchester in the FA Trophy will be the ‘catalyst to kick-start’ their season.

“It’s great to get a win on the board but it’s obviously not the three points being an FA Trophy game, said Richards.

“That elusive win is always the monkey you want to get off your back and I’m glad the boys have pulled through in the second half and put in a good performance today.

“A credit to the lads, there are a lot of new faces that have come in and it does take a bit of time but hopefully it can be the catalyst that can maybe kick-start our season.

“When all the boys are hitting sevens and eights out of 10 then you are going to win more football games than you don’t so it was pleasing today.

“There are still so many parts of that game today that are nowhere near good enough, we’re not coming here and getting a win and everything is fine. There is still loads for us to work on and we will need to add more players to the squad to make sure we carry on in the right direction but it does take time.

“It is baby steps, you have new faces coming into the team and we get limited time together as a team so it doesn’t just fall into place over-night.

“We have got to work on things on the field and in the classroom. Potentially we will have a couple of signings next week and Tim’s been working hard in the background especially so hopefully we can get a couple of the line next week.

Hereford goalkeeper Matt Yates made a double save when his side were 1-0 behind which Richards said was ‘huge’ on their way to victory.

“It was huge, you look at it and he’s made a great save off the first and I think whose reacting and it was there striker,” Richards added.

“He got one right in the stomach and it shows the quality he has got. He has kept us in games and that was vital at that time in the first half to ensure we didn’t go 2-0 down.

“It’s nice to get a first win and monkey off you back. Hopefully this can be the corner that we can turn.”

“I know the frustrations have been there and you heard it today in the first half but you’ve all got to stick together and push forward together as one and get more wins on the board.”
