WESTFIELDS secured a fine 3-1 home win over rivals Stourport Swifts on Saturday to earn another important three points to keep them up in the hunt for the Midland Football League Premier Division crown.

The Hereford side now sit in second and are just four points behind favourites Ilkeston Town.

Andy Bevan's players face another crunch fixture on the weekend when they travel to Worcester City – and so the weekend win was vital to keep up the pressure on the leaders.

A crowd of 166 saw Stourport make the early running and Matt Hanson gave the visitors the lead when he seized upon a loose ball in the six-yard box to blast home after Ian Havard initially saved the first shot.

However, it did not take Westfields too long to draw level and, when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, Craig Jones fired a thunderbolt at goal.

That effort was stopped but Ben Hayes reacted first to head home the ball home and put Westfields level.

The home side went into the lead just before half time when Jamie Molyneux blasted home and continued to dominate after the interval.

Good work between Sam Gwynne and Molyneux created an opportunity for Hayes who seized on the opportunity to score his second and his side's third.

Westfields are next in action at home when they welcome Leicester Nirvana to allpay.park on December 1 for a 3pm kick-off in the FA Vase.
