A NEW point to point race course named ‘Leominster Races’ is set to hold its first meeting later this month.

The North Herefordshire Hunt fixture on November 24, will use the new course which runs alongside the River Lugg.

Supporters have grafted to produce a flat, oval course close to the junction of the A49 and the A44 (HR6 0NA).

Eaton Hall, is home to the Price family, who are steeped in racing history through connection with the legendary Red Dove, and Eaton Hall was where the 1994 Champion Hurdle winner, Flakey Dove was produced and trained.

There are seven races scheduled for the new fixture, with the first at 11.30am.

These include a Jockey Club Maiden for Mares and Fillies, where the first four past the post accumulate points for the Jockey Club Mares Maiden Series, worth £500 to the winner.

There was an Open Day at Eaton Hall last Sunday, where guests took the chance to inspect the new course.

With the Ross Harriers moving their meeting to Monmouth Showground in the adjacent area, there will sadly be no fixtures at Garnons this season.
