LEOMINSTER Rankin Club Society’s 24th annual open stableford for the Mathew Finney Memorial Cup produced a close finish with Mark Pearson winning the trophy by a single point.
A field of 40 golfers braved continual rainfall at Leominster Golf Club but still produced some good results.
Pearson collected 37 points, while runner-up Jeremy Finney was on 36 and third-placed Jon Cooke on 35.
Cooke won his place on count-back from last year’s winner, Terry Davies, who in turn finished just ahead of Derek Phillips, also on count-back.
Other prizes included: best left-hander, Mike Barrington; most points on par threes and nearest the pin sixth hole, Brian Faulkner; nearest the pin second shot on 18th hole, Dan Kelly; longest drive, Kevin Green.
