WELLINGTON have a new found confidence and a last gasp winner saw them seal a place in the FA Vase first round.

Gary Stevens’ side overcame Midlands Football League side AFC Wulfrunians thanks to a 92nd minute Paul Jones winner on Saturday.

Lads Club also in the first round after scoring either side of half-time to take a 2-1 victory over Coventry Copeswood.

Welllington will travel to another step six side in the form of Romulus in the FA Vase first round while Lads Club host Paget Rangers- both ties will be played October 13.

Stevens’ side headed to Wulfrunians full of confidence following their 11-0 drumming of Pershore Town 88 the previous week.

However, they found themselves behind in the 20th minute when goalkeeper Matt Apperley saved Jake Webb's initial free-kick only for Kaoui Attoumani to net the rebound.

Wellington were level after 33 minutes with Mike Mullenger getting to the byline before crossing onto the head of Luke Griffiths to level.

Just when the tie looked bound for a replay in the 92nd minute Welly carved their hosts open and a one-two resulted in Paul Jones slotting home.

“We deserved the win and they were a fit side in the league above us,” said Stevens.

“I expected Wulfrunians to be a bit stronger than they were and the only time they created anything was from set pieces, when their delivery was excellent and caused us problems, but the rest of the time we kept them quiet.

“We got back to 1-1 and I really thought we were looking like we were going to score and we had a chance to before the 92nd minute.”

After a run of four defeats in five games, when Stevens said his players didn’t believe in themselves, Wellington have now won three on the bounce.

Lads Club went into their FA Vase tie at Coventry Copeswood on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Tividale.

A 42nd minute Jamie Cuthbertson header at the far post sent Danny Moon’s side on their way to the first round before Rory Worthing doubled their lead just two minutes after the break with a shot from the edge of the box.

Danny Fraser pulled a goal back but Lads Club held on for victory.
