WESTFIELDS warmed up for their big clash with Hereford FC in perfect style by beating South Normanton 2-0 today at allpay park – and moved to the top of the Midland Premier Division.

Substitutes Mark Magee and Carlos Moreira came off the bench in the second half to grab a goal each – and make a claim for a start in Tuesday’s County Cup tie at Edgar Street.

Fields dominated possession in the first half but were unable to create too many clear opportunities – although former Bull Jamie Molyneux did go close from the edge of the box.

The home side finally broke the deadlock on the hour-mark when Magee broke the off-side trap to fire home from 10 yards in front of a crowd of 151.

Curtis Hall, the South Normanton goalkeeper, put in a man of the match display to keep his side in the contest until the closing stages – and stopped Moreira from doubling the lead on several occasions when the Portuguese forward looked odds-on to score.

But Moreira never stopped running and deservedly got his goal when he tapped into an empty net after Hall had produced another reflex save from a Magee shot.

Westfields are now two points clear at the top and, having rested Sam Archer Plane for today’s contest, will fancy their chances against Hereford on Tuesday.
