HEREFORD Lads Club Ladies will create a piece of club history this weekend when they compete in the SSE Women's FA Cup for the first time.

After winning the Mid-West Counties Ladies Football League last season the Widemarsh Common side were invited to take part in this season’s tournament.

They received a bye through last weekend's preliminary round and will face Kidderminster Harriers Ladies at home in the first qualifying round on Sunday (2pm).

Harriers, who were promoted after winning the Mid-West Counties Football League in 2017, ply their trade in the West Midlands Women’s League.

They beat AFC Telford United Ladies 2-0 in the preliminary round to set-up the tie.

“I imagine because of the level of teams in the FA Cup we got the invite after winning our league as the lower teams in our league wouldn’t stand a chance,” said Lads Club manager Marcus Jenkins.

“It’s going to be a test for us and we need to have a good day as they are a good strong side and when we played them in our league we lost to them away and beat them at home.

“So we can beat them but it depends how much they have progressed in the last season while playing at a higher level.”

Lads Club have come from behind to win both of their pre-season games beating Solihull Ladies 2-1 and the Forest of Dean Ladies 3-2.

“When we get our act together we are a good team and sometimes it clicks but sometimes it doesn’t,” added Jenkins.

Meanwhile Hereford FC Ladies start their Mid-West Counties league campaign this weekend when they travel into Shropshire to play Ludlow.

They beat Worcester City Ladies 3-0 in their final pre-season match on Sunday with Roxana Dinescu netting a brace with Lauren Brown and Tasha Jones also netting.

After being deducted three points for their game being abandoned last weekend Bartestree Women are due to play Welland Ladies at home (2pm).
