AFTER being part of three title winning sides with Hereford FC veteran defender Ryan Green said he wants to finish his career at Edgar Street.

The 37-year-old centre-half faces long journeys from his South Wales home to some of the National League North opponents this season.

However, Green who played for Hereford United before signing for the re-formed club said that when faced with the decision whether to sign for the coming campaign he couldn't say no.

"I had a think about it but I've done a lot of work with the club and it's my 10th season now so my heart was always going to stay with Hereford," said Green.

"I know everybody, it's a great club and I'd love to finish my career here. It's the only club in my heart so the best place for me to stay.

"I have definitely got next season in me and ideally I'd like to play until I'm 40 but we'll see."

Green missed the opening pre-season two fixtures after suffering with vertigo for two weeks but felt back to himself during a physical encounter against Newport County.

"It was my third game back and it was the first strong team we have played so it was a good test," he added following the Newport County defeat.

"I think 2-0 was probably a fair result although it was a little bit disappointing conceding right at the end.

"The Cardiff game will be good and I don't know what team they will put out. Even if it's the under-23s they will be strong so it will be another test and then we'll be ready for next season.

"The National League North is a level I haven't played at yet and it will be tough as there are a lot of good and full-time teams.

"Anything above mid-table will be a bonus."
