FANS will be able to stand at the front of the Meadow End from tomorrow increasing the capacity of Edgar Street.

After three seasons of ground upgrades, repairs and alterations, almost 300 fans will be able to stand in the area directly behind the goal once approval has been received from the relevant authorities.

Fans attending tomorrow’s friendly against Newport County will be able to return to the front of the Meadow End which has been closed to supporters for many years.

“We’re really pleased to be able to reintroduce standing to the area at the front of the Meadow End and I’d like to thank the volunteers and contractors who have helped make this possible,” Stadium Director, Paul Quarrell told the club’s official website.

“I would also like to thank the relevant authorities and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) who have worked with us and supported us as we look to increase the overall Edgar Street capacity, as well as improving the matchday experience for our fans.”

The area was traditionally popular with young fans and their families.

The club has asked that supporters are aware that to allow for the changes, various yellow hatched areas at the front of the Meadow End have been repainted, and in some cases altered or moved slightly.

They have asked supporters to take note of instructions from the stewards over the next few matches to help ensure that the club continues to comply with health and safety and ground regulations.Volunteers have also been cleaning, painting and repairing areas around the rest of the stadium.

“Once again the volunteers have done a fantastic job, helping us to not only repair and maintain but also to improve the stadium,” Quarrell added.

“They have put in many hours of hard work, simply for the love of the club, and I am sure their fellow supporters will join me in thanking them for their efforts during the summer months. The work they have done is appreciated by everyone.”
