HEREFORD are set to sign young midfielder Adam Hockey after the trialist impressed during the opening three friendlies.

The former Cheltenham Town scholar who started at Pegasus Juniors impressed last season while playing for Hereford Lads Club.

He was one of four trialists to start pre-season training for the Bulls but the only one yet to make the grade.

“Adam is going to sign, said Hereford maanger Pete Beadle.

“We will look to do that in the next couple of weeks. We think he’s got lots of talent and potential. One we’d like to work with and keep part of the group.”

Hereford also gave debuts to former Wolves Academy and Bermuden international goalkeeper Jahquil Hill and Tom Fry.

“Jahquil has come in as obviously we are looking for another goalkeeper so played today and will play again on Tuesday (against Evesham United), Beadle added.

“He did fine but obviously it was a difficult game for him to come into. Tom (Fry) was in touch with us a couple of weeks ago while on trial at Oxford United but nothing there so he’s trained with us and then looked nice and bright today and will play again Tuesday.”

Hereford put a dampener on the re-opening of Sporting Khalsa’s Aspray Arens by taking a 3-1 victory.

It looked like it could have been a long afternoon for Khalsa after Lance Smith and Mike Symons both netted in the opening 17 minutes.

However, Mykel Beckley gave the hosts hope of an upset just before half-time after he broke through on goal and chipped the Bulls goalkeeper.

But it was not to be as Hereford showed the three leagues difference and sealed the win through former Chester City striker Harry White two minutes from time.

“It was incredibly hot but another good workout and the lads have got minutes under their belts, said Hereford manager Pete Beadle.

“It was just a bit of a misunderstanding (with the conceded goal) but that’s going to happen and I’d rather get it out of the way in pre-season I’m not too worried about that.

“Today was a test, they are big and powerful but I thought the lads stood up to it well.

“I’more worried about the lads fitness and try and go into the season with no injuries and everybody fit and ready to go.

“They’ve had another good workout against a tough team and tough conditions. The pitch was brand new and they’ve only had it down a couple of weeks and hasn’t been used much either.

“It’s a decent surface, it’s true and it’s a fairly decent roll but unforgiving in this heat.”
