COUNT-BACK decided the honours of Ross Golf Club's latest major honour on the calender- the Ernest Penn Trophy.

Robin Henderson-Pugh, playing off a 19 handicap, captured six consecutive gross pars on the front nine holes to finish top of the final score-sheet with 43 points.

Winner of the Keene Cup two weeks earlier Barry Smith also finished on 43 points but count-back denied him the title.

For Henderson-Pugh it will have revived memories of five years ago when he also won the Keene Cup and his latest success also comes with a two shots handicap reduction.

Smith has had a remarkable season of golfing improvement reducing his handicap from 26 he now consistently plays off 19.

They were followed by nine handicapper Peter Bennett with David M Rees in close pursuit with 40 points and Roger Alford with 39 points.

Seniors Champion in 2017 Robin Darling was not far out with 38 points as was Alan Docherty also with 38 points.
