LADS Club Ladies proved that dedication pays off as they clinched the Mid West Counties Female league following a final day victory.

Marcus Jenkins' side knew that they needed to beat Welland at the County Ground or risk TDMS pipping them to the title.

Sarah Bishop settled any nerves by putting her side ahead after 13 minutes and then two minutes before the break Mel Mayo flicked the ball into the net to double their advantage.

Welland wanted to spoil the title party and responded five minutes after half-time through Zena Jones.

However, it was to be Lads Club's day and their captain Emily Morgan restored their advantage as the game finished 3-1.

"It has been a hard fought season and we weren't the favourites to win it," said manager Jenkins.

"Up until three weeks ago Wyre Forest were favourites but they lost two games and we sneaked in and won it.

"We have had a good group who have turned up week after week which makes a big difference as they are familiar with each other and play some good football.

"We are going to stay in this league next season as our ladies love to play football and enjoy themselves. If we go up a league we would have to travel further and some of them have other commitments."
