JUNIOR cyclist Joshua Sandman continued his winning streak in time trails and set a personal best of 19 minutes and 40 seconds over 10 miles.

The 17-year-old, from near Ross-on-Wye has spent the spring racing against some of the best junior riders across Europe in road races but now has his sights on British titles and competition records against the clock.

Despite windy conditions on Saturday, Sandman took a fine victory in the Ludlow 10-mile Time Trial which took place on the A49 between Woofferton and Ludlow.

"On the way out it was quite a strong head wind and I got blew around quite a lot so tried to stay smooth," said Sandman.

"There was a tail wind on the way home so I absolutely nailed myself on the way home trying to bring back time lost. I was surprised with my time and there was some really fast competitors so I didn't think I would win it."

Sandman finished second in the National Junior Championships last season clocking a time of 20.32, his time on Saturday knocked a chunk off his personal best.

The youngster will again target glory in the National 10 and 25 Mile Championships this year and is targetting the Junior British record over the 10 miles distance set at 18 minutes and 46 seconds.

Sandman also his big ambitions in road racing and has been racing in Belgium and Luxembourg so far this year, but has been unfortunate suffering mechanical problems and crashes.

"I have got some road goals as well and would like to finish high up in the National Junior Road Race Championships in July," he added.

"I would like to get a top 10 result in one of the races abroad to get more on a good sponsored team next year. I have future ambitions of the riding the biggest races in the world like the Tour of Italy and Tour of France."
