HEREFORD head coach Sean Lynn emphasised the importance of development rugby after his young squad took a 41-10 victory over Worcester.

The Wyesiders ran over two unanswered tries in the first half before taking a stranglehold on the tie with Rhys Proctor scoring a brace and Gareth Jones rounding out the victory with his second.

"This was a one to 18 squad effort, before the game I asked them to give me a positive response from last week's defeat, to learn from our mistakes and that we did," said Lynn.

"To come away from home and win in a local derby by 41 points to 10 was a great effort from the boys. We set the tone right away, in the first ten minutes we defended very well, then we took a quick ‘tap and go’ for a great try.

"It is grand to see youngsters coming through, Rhys Proctor looked sharp out there today, Lennon Fishlock came on looking strong and for these youngsters to have the exposure is great for Hereford Rugby Club.

"It just shows how important Colts rugby is to a club like us. Leon Parsons was my man of the match today, playing in the centre out of position, he was physical in both attack and defence.”

After being confined to defence in the early minutes, Bryn Goodall took a quick tap penalty. He fed Rhys Proctor, who laid off for Leon Parsons to make no mistake in racing in for the first try, Goodall kicked the conversion.

With both sides reduced to 14 men Jones took advantage and after a series of short tap penalties the pack drove over for Jones to touchdown to give his side a 20-0 lead at half-time.

Despite playing into a strong wind in the second half, Hereford started as they ended the first, keeping ball in hand and attacking at every opportunity. Rhys Proctor added to their advantage with a typical scrum half try, breaking from the base of a ruck and dodging the defence.

James Gannon was shown yellow and while he was in the bin, Worcester kicked to the corner and Tom Dodge drove over for their first try.

Whilst still a man down, Bryn Goodall fed Proctor for the fourth and bonus point try, converted by Goodall.

Hereford’s final try was a solo effort by Jones who picked up a loose ball to run 30 yards to the goal-line. Jones' try was converted by Jordan Sheehy, another young player making his first team debut.

Worcester scored a second try in a similar way to their first, kicking to the corner and driving over the line through Dodge.
