HEREFORD United boss Graham Turner has been running the rule over a number of triallists as pre-season training progresses at Edgar Street.

"Training has been going very well and the players have been working very hard," said the Bulls chief.

"We have several triallists here at the moment, pros from Derby County, Cardiff City, Bournemouth and Birmingham among others.

"I would not expect there to be any signings this week but, more likely, next week."

Among the next batch of triallists who will be attending training next week is promising young goalkeeper Adam Collin, 22, who starred for Workington as they just missed out on promotion in the Conference North last season.

A back-up keeper to Wayne Brown is one of Turner's priorities before the season begins.

"We are also looking at wide players and strikers," he confirmed.

With last week's signings of John McCombe and Karl Broadhurst and the re-signing of Dean Beckwith, the defensive unit is taking shape nicely.

But it is not yet clear whether the other recent acquisition, Kris Taylor, will be part of that unit or deployed further forward.

"He has been playing in midfield in training and doing very well," said Turner. "But he did have a very good season at full-back with Walsall.

"It gives us some flexibility as Rob Purdie did in past seasons."

Turner was also "not dissatisfied" with the six-figure deal achieved for Andy Williams (see Sports Times 2).

"The money will be earmarked for increases in wages or for the transfer market," he said.

The influx of signings has already begun to have an impact off the field.

"We have had a very good week of season-ticket sales," confirmed Turner, who is hoping that a detailed planning application for the redevelopment of Edgar Street can be submitted by the end of the year.
