HEREFORD Municipal are just one game away from the NAPGC national final of the Hawtree mixed foursomes after a home whitewash 5-0 win over Birmingham's Hilltop GC.

Club captain Colin Morgan and Sharon Helps set the ball rolling with a 5&4 win in the opening match, closely followed by wins for Averil Magee and Dave Wooles and Alan Leake and Jenny Wildman.

Municipal must now beat Thornbury on a neutral venue to reach the final.

The lady captain's team were once again victorious in their match against the club captain's team at Herefordshire GC.

This was mainly due to Willie Weaver's generosity in allowing them three shots, but the result was a little closer than previous years, going 4-3 to the ladies.

The visitors' Stableford prize went to Sarah Kenyon (Cotswold Hills), 31 pts, with Jenny Knox (Cottrell Park) in second with 28. The Stableford prize went to Jessica Paget (Worcestershire) with 28 pts, Herefordshire's Doreen Pomrey came in second, also with 28, while the next three places were occupied by three home players, Pauline Greenwold (27), Jose Wilson (27) and Joan Punnett (26).

Jane Powles retained her title as Leominster's club championship after a close battle played out over two days.

Caroline Charles saw off the opposition to become nett champion.

There was an excellent win, too, for club member Janet Whittall who carried off the Worcester & Hereford Ladies County Golf Association Mary Hampson Trophy and Bronze Coronation Medal played at Kington.
