HEREFORD Rugby Club are now bottom of the Midlands 1 West table after losing 17-12 to Bournville.

However, the Wyesiders did produced a much better performance than what they have produced in their previous games and were up against one of the favourites for promotion.

Bournville dominated possession in the early stages and took the lead with a penalty goal after Hereford were caught off side at a scrum.

Hereford began to put together some good phases and Leon Parsons and Sean Day caught the eye with determined runs. Young Callum Dratshaw starting his first game, made some elusive runs and got the backs running off him.

Hereford opened their account when a ball was moved wide to Day who made ground, chipped ahead and won the race to touch down.

Morgan Goodall converted to give the Wyesiders a 7-3 lead which they took into the interval.

Hereford extended their lead when Gareth Jones intercepted a pass to score in the corner.

Bournville hit back with a converted try before they scored again to go 17-12 ahead and win the match.

"The defensive structure was back in play and the boys had a hunger to make the big tackle," said Hereford player coach Luke Fishe

"We were beaten in the set pieces, but still played some good rugby.

"It’s a shame we didn’t get the result we wanted, but we scored two good tries and have a lot to build on going forward.”

Skipper Luke Yarranton added: "We needed a good defensive effort off the back of the last couple of games and this week we shall need another.

"When we had the ball we always looked dangerous and the atmosphere in the dressing room is good, the boys have the 'buzz back.”
