EASTNOR saw off the challenge of a former England international to record their second win of the season.

The Herefordshire side were four-wicket victors over Aston Manor in Division Three of the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League.

But had it not been for the heroics of 50-year-old former England bowler Phil DeFreitas, Eastnor's win could have been emphatic.

DeFreitas, who retired from first class cricket 11 years ago having played 44 Test matches and 103 one-day internationals for his country, was the only Aston Manor player to reach double figures when his side elected to bat having won the toss in east Herefordshire.

He came to the crease with his side struggling on 21-3 before taking complete control, blasting ten fours and a six on his way to making an unbeaten 65 as Aston Manor were dismissed for 116.

Shahid Ahmed was the pick of the Eastnor bowlers, returning impressive figures of 6-16.

In reply, Eastnor lost early wickets to slump to 36-4 with Defreitas dismissing Suleyman Shah for nine.

But Josh Emery steadied the ship with an unbeaten 40, including two maximums, to see Eastnor home, with Arshad Hussain also notching three boundaries in a run-a-ball 18.

This Saturday, Eastnor travel to second-placed Streetly.
