LUCTONIANS slumped to their first defeat in six games as a dominant second half display saw strugglers Huddersfield beat them 37-32 in National League 2 North.

The Kingsland side were one of the form teams in the division having managing to pull themselves clear of danger.

And, despite the defeat, the two bonus points they acquired mean they jump up to ninth – seven points above the relegation zone.

It could have been a much better day for Lucs though as, at one stage, they led 25-10 at the break.

Luctonians opened the scoring when Alex Smith capitalised on a wayward chip from Joe Hinchcliffe; Louis Silver converting.

But the home side levelled thanks to a converted try before Lucs piled up 15 points in just six minutes.

Josh Watkins claimed his first try before a Silver penalty and try from Joe White too the score to 25-10.

However, quick-fire tries from Alex Battye and Lewis Workman and a Chris Bell penalty brought Huddersfield level.

Adam Malthouse then put them ahead before Gary Rhodes' try made it 37-25.

But, with minutes remaining, tempers flared and both sides were reduced to 13 men.

That seemed to rattle the home side and Watkins scored another try; Silver again converting.

But there was no time left on the clock for Lucs to score again and they had to settle for two bonus points.

Luctonians are back on the road this Saturday when they travel to South Leicester.
