THE 50th anniversary of the Hereford Times Trophy at Herefordshire GC was marked by a convincing victory for Neil Greening and Jason Plant.

The trophy was presented to the club by the directors of the Hereford Times in 1957 to mark the captaincy of Philip Peacock who was editor at that time.

Played over two days, it is a Canada Cup style competition with hidden pairings and decided on nett aggregate.

Results: 1 Neil Greening (66+72=138) and Jason Plant (64+75=139) 277, 2 Andy Morrison (72+75=147) and Carol Owen (71+63=134) 281, 3 Peter Evans (76+68=139) and Dave Boswell (71+68=139) 283.

Ian McIntosh was in prolific form to win the seniors' stableford.

Results, (0-18): Ian McIntosh 44 pts, 2 Clive James 39, 3 Graham Davies 33; (19-28): 1 Joe Millington 39, 2 John Warren 36, 3 Jim Sloan 36.

The seniors team lost 5-3 at Monmouth and drew 4-4 at home with Ross-on-Wye.

James Cooke has been installed as the junior section captain with Matthew Davies as vice-captain.

There was a close struggle for the Captain's Putter at Belmont before David Wood emerged the winner of the stableford competition.

He finished with 42 points and was closely followed by Stewart Thomson on 41 and Ed Sargeant on 40.

Pairs stableford: 1 Colin Tolley and Des Davies 77 pts, 2 David Wood and John Whitehouse 74, 3 Jim Morgan and Manny Eistel 71.

Forty-six seniors travelled to Cleobury Mortimer for their away day when Wref Digings received the Peter Burge Cup for the overall winner.

Ross-on-Wye played their county medal competition from which the winners of each division qualify for the Gloucester County handicap final at Minchinhampton on July 19 - a qualifier for the EGU Gold Medal final at Woodhall Spa later in the year.

Seniors' Layton Cup accumulator stableford, second round: 1 Mike Ludlow 44pts, =2 John Hurley, John Allen, Alan Pearson and John Palmer 40.

Ross B team gained a 5- home win over Forest of Dean, while the C team won 3-2 at Kington but lost 4-1 at Painswick.

John Davis lifted his first trophy of the year when he overcame blustery conditions at Hereford Municipal to win the Bikold Cup.

Davis scored 82-13-69 but had to fight hard to hold off the challenge of Sharon Helps with 87-16-71.

Helps had the consolation of victory in the combined monthly medal, however, when her two courtesy shots gave her 87-18-69 to pip Davis on countback.

Adam Vaughan was in sparkling form to win the May medal at Kington with 78-17-61.

The seniors' four-ball better ball competition was won by Neil Warrington and Eddy Winstone with 47 points, while Ken Canton and Pip Ryde took second place on countback from Ron Davies and Mike Richards after both pairs finished on 44.

Rolls of Monmouth senior Gerry Sadler will remember his trip to Kington fondly despite his team losing 4-1 to the host club's seniors.

Sadler, who has played the game for 45 years, scored his first hole in one at the fifth to help win his game.

Kington beat Sapey 5-2 in a friendly match.

A countback was needed to decide category one of the May medal at Leominster.

There was a close finish to Burghill Valley seniors' April stableford.

Charles Matthew won the Tony Young Trophy for 28-handicappers on countback from Barry Watkins after they both finished on 35 points.

Burghill seniors beat Leominster 4-2 at home in a friendly match.

Andrew Phillips was the winner when Sapey staged their Directline stableford.

Trophy holders Cradoc Seniors A team have received their first home draw in the South Wales Seniors Classic Cup for the first time since 2005.

They will play Milford Haven A on May 27 when the B team are also at home Maesteg A in the Bowl competition.

Cradoc took a commanding 8-3 lead at home in the first leg of their annual Boathouse Trophy fixture with Brecon. The return leg will be played at Brecon in June.

The top four in the Union of Wales Handicap qualifier represent the club in the following round.

They were Phil Williams on 41 points, followed by Phil James and Rhys Annet, both on 40, and John Jones, 39.

Cradoc seniors won 4-3 at Burghill Valley.

Leominster Rankin Club Society held their first outing of the season at Bryn Meadows, near Blackwood in South Wales where they met up again with their retired club steward, Charles Win-stone.

Honours for the day went to Brian Amos with 36 stableford points.
