WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards has targeted League Cup success that has so far eluded him – but he has to get past city rivals Hereford FC first.

The two clubs will face each other in the second round of the Polymac Packaging Midland Football League Cup at Edgar Street on Tuesday, October 27.

It will be the first time that they will have squared off at the home of the Bulls, with the league encounter not taking place until Boxing Day.

Westfields have reached the final twice previously, but on both occasions lost at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

“We want to win every game and if you win games it breeds a bit more confidence, especially as it’s a local derby,” said Edwards.

“It will be our first chance to play at Edgar Street and it will be a good crowd.

“We have lost twice in the final and three times in the semi-final, including last season against Long Eaton when we felt robbed by the referee.

“The pitch at the Bescot Stadium is not the best because at that stage of the season, it is well used, but the actual set-up is excellent.

“We still would like to win it, but we have to beat Hereford first, which will be tough.”

Hereford centre-back Nathan Summers added that the second derby game between the two clubs should be a good occasion.

“It’s one that we’re always looking forward to, like the derby before, and it’s a nice game to play in, especially as a centre-half,” he said.

Since drawing 0-0 at allpay.park on August Bank Holiday Monday, Hereford have won all of their games and are top of the Midland Football League Premier Division on goal difference.

Westfields, meanwhile, are playing catch-up having played four games fewer than the Bulls and languish near the foot of the division.

But Edwards’ side have hit the goal-trail this week, scoring four goals against Rocester last Saturday before thrashing Fownhope 11-0 in the first round of the HFA County Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Jamie Cuss scored five of the goals, with Ekene Amadi also helping himself to a first half hat-trick.

Craig Jones, Phil Glover and Mike Burgess were also on target for the home side.

Westfields travel to Quorn this Saturday in a vital game having thrown away a lead against Rocester last weekend.

Cuss also scored a hat-trick in that game, but a last-minute penalty helped Rocester claim a 4-4 draw.

“We didn’t get there until quite late because there was an accident on the M5, but we got back into the game but the defending was not acceptable,” said Edwards, whose side travel to Coleshill Town next Tuesday.

“But they had quite a few chances like us, so a draw was probably a fair result.”

Aidan Thomas scored Westfields’ other goal.
