Phoenix 3 Leafield Athletic 2 PHOENIX kept alive their hopes of runners-up spot in the Central Warwick-shire under-16 league with a dramatic late win against all the odds.
The city side were able to field only 10 players and were two goals adrift at half-time. Only a couple of superb saves from Lisa Francis prevented an even greater interval deficit.
Leafield were rocked, however, when Emily Lovelock raced through to reduce arrears and Lisa Wooles lobbed the Leafield keeper from the edge of the box to level the scores.
With Phoenix defenders Lara Wooles and Danielle Jones in inspired form, the game appeared to be heading for a draw until Charlotte Criddle clinched all the points from the penalty spot a minute from time.
