HEREFORDSHIRE slipped to Twenty20 defeat during a mini-tournament on Sunday.

The county side were edged out by Oxfordshire in the final of the four-team MCCA Unicorns T20 competition at Eastnor having seen off Wales in the semi-final.

The highlight of that match was a stunning unbeaten century from David Ball who walloped six sixes and 12 fours in his 112 not out from 59 balls.

The knock helped Herefordshire, who won the toss and elected to bat, post 194-5.

In reply, Wales started well but then lost quick wickets which saw them slip from 24-0 to 39-3, with Dan Conway picking up two of the wickets.

Then it was the turn of David Exall to turn on the style.

The veteran bowler removed the sting from Wales' middle order by dismissing captain Tom Baker, Gareth Davies and Owen Morgan on his way to figures of 3-25 from four overs.

Wales finished on 133-9, giving Herefordshire a 61-run victory.

In the final they came up against a good Oxfordshire side who had seen off Shropshire in their semi-final.

Herefordshire again won the toss and elected to bat but got off to a disastrous start, losing Gus Milton to the first ball of the innings.

David Ball was unable to repeat his heroics from earlier in the day as he soon followed for a second-ball duck, before Martin Donald was dismissed for one, leaving Herefordshire reeling on 3-3.

A slight recovery followed as they limped to 69-7 but it was only thanks to an unbeaten 35 from Tom Coleman and 24 not out from Mohammed Pardesi that the home side reached 113-7.

Despite claiming the early wicket of opener Richard Kaufman, Oxfordshire coasted to an eight-wicket win with 40 deliveries to spare.
