THE Larruperz Centre in Ross-on-Wye was the venue for the annual short mat bowls' county triples competition.
Sixteen teams gathered in four groups to compete for the Bromyard Cup with each team playing six games to produce four group winners. They were Woolhope, Larruperz, Ross and Weston-under-Penyard. The Woolhope team of Sandra Rogers, Phil Rogers and Anthony Rogers won a hard-fought final against Weston by 14 shots to 12.
Neil Kellett of the Fownhope club will compete in the national finals after winning the Herefordshire County Championship singles title against Anthony Rogers of Woolhope.
Meanwhile, the short mat bowls county season was brought to a close at the Larruperz Centre with an all day match between the two county teams.
The result was a win for the premier team 20 to 12 but it was a closely contested affair with the A' team putting in a strong performance.
Anthony Rogers in the singles, the pair of Dave Watkins and Tim Horton Smith and the four of Hilary Mansell, Sheila Wye and Sue and John Stannard won both of their games to enjoy a successful competition.
