OVER thirty teams gathered over a busy weekend to contest the Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling County Triples and Fours Championships.
The Saturday tournament saw nineteen teams contest the Triples championship at Ross Bowling Club
By the semi-finals it had become a Ross and Woolhope affair with each club having two teams remaining.
Fittingly, one team from each club won through to the final where the Ross team of Sue Dix, Rob George and Dave Watkins triumphed over Dominic, Phil and Anthony Rogers , the defending champions from Woolhope.
The following day saw fifteen teams compete for the Fours championship at the Larruperz Centre.
Five different clubs were represented in the semi-finals with one team made up of three of the county’s representatives in the England Under-21 squad playing alongside Tony Vitale.
The team defeated a Ross side to progress to the final where they met Aston Ingham, comprising of David Warren, David Sylvester, Terry Darrington and Rita Hancock.
Aston Ingham defeated Fownhope in their semi-final.
The multi-club team of Joe Loveys (Gorsley Chapel), Luke Rawlings (Larruperz), Kate Williams (Ross) and Tony Vitale (Larruperz) ran out winners in the final.
Meanwhile, the two counties LEH knockout tournament has reached the semi-final stage with two clubs from Herefordshire left in.
Ross will play Gloster Knights and Lea will play Westbury-on-Severn, each match played over home and away legs.
