COLWALL & Malvern went down 3-2 to rivals Newent in West Club's Women's Hockey League Severn Division 1.

With attacking pressure from the start, Colwall were put under great pressure, but their youthful side held their own.

The deadlock was broken by Colwall when a great strike from Melinda Bennett found Becky Lewis wide on the right.

She in turn crossed for Lucy Matthews to finish calmly into the far corner.

This spurred the home side, whose attacking play was rewarded with an equaliser just before half time.

Newent took the lead after the after thanks to some hard pressure on the Colwall defence, but Colwall levelled when the ball found its way to India Vance to tap home on her debut.

Colwall created more chances in an attempt to take the lead and it was Newent who ended up grabbing a winner.

Colwall and Malvern 2nd's game was called off due to a frozen pitch.

In the same division, Hereford 2nd drew 0-0 at Cheltenham Civil Service.

Hereford 2nd were unable to field a full side but defended brilliant to secure a point in their bid to stay in the division.

There was also joy for Hereford's first team, who jump up to fourth in Premier Division 2A thanks to a 3-1 home win against City of Bath.

Elsewhere, Leominster went down 4-1 to leaders Jaspers in North Division, while Ross-on-Wye beat Cirencester 3rd 1-0 in Severn Division 2.
