AN injury to goalkeeper Bryn Watkins proved too much of a handicap for Pegasus Juniors to overcome as they went down to fellow West Midlands League Premier Division high-flyers Shawbury.
Watkins sprained his ankle in a collision with Sean Butler just before half-time and was a virtual passenger for the remainder of the match .
With no goalkeeper on the bench, he could not be replaced.
travelled to north Shropshire for a West Midland (Regional) League - Premier Division fixture, at Butler Sports Ground, Wem, with both teams requiring the points to keep in contention at the top of the league table.
By that stage, Pegasus were trailing 2-1 in a match played in shocking conditions, with driving winds and rain for the duration of the game on an already heavy pitch.
Shawbury took the lead in the 16th minute when Stuart Ellis bundled the ball into the net from a free kick.
Tom Dawson and Ben Price set up Keith Jones for an equaliser three minutes later.
But before the interval, a free-kick from full-back Connor Courtney from the half-way line close to the touch line was missed by everyone and ended in the net .
Two minutes after the break Pegasus levelled again through Cory Hyde.
But, on 50 minutes, a Tom Rogers free-kick from the edge of the area beat the incapacitated Watkins.
Shortly afterwards, a similar goal from Courtney extended the lead.
Substitute Steve Vaux broke away to score the final Shawbury goal.
