HEREFORDSHIRE’S own version of Pitt the Younger is aiming to take football management by storm.

Rookie boss Daniel Pitt is out to prove, at just 19, that youth can overcome experience.

He is guiding Norfolk Athletic’s promotion bid from the Herefordshire Sunday League Division One North.

“I am pretty sure that I am the youngest football manager in the county,” said Pitt, who first stepped into the managerial hot-seat last season when Norfolk were founded.

Norfolk have had a promising campaign. They are in a comfortable position in mid-table and are well on course for a top-five finish.

Goals from Ryan Armstrong, Zac Sirrell and Jack Tomlinson helped them beat lowly Plough last weekend and next Sunday take on second-in-the-table Burghill Rangers.

They beat Rangers earlier in the season in the HFA Sunday Cup where they reached the quarter-finals before being beaten by Premier Division Allstars. They also reached the last eight of the Shelton Cup.

“Daniel is already being praised and regarded as a very promising young manager not only for his coaching but his ideas and philosophy about how the game should be played,” said Norfolk’s assistant manager Adam Owen.

Pitt’s Newton Farm-based team are full of young guns – the oldest player in the side is just 24 years old.

“We want to build the team from young players, to coach them to keep the ball,” said Pitt, who is poised to take his level one coaching course.

“We play good football and that’s what we pride ourselves on, and how we are competing with the more physical sides in the league.”

The Norfolk boss added: “It’s a project we’re involved with – we want to get young players from the area and coach them good football.

“We want to eventually compete with the likes of Pegasus and Westfields.”
