A re-offender pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on two occasions.

Jack Payne told Worcester Magistrates Court he uses drink to cope with mental health problems.

Emily Clewer, prosecuting said: "Just before 5am on September 9 police were called to a disturbance in the street outside Mr Payne's mother's address. She had refused him entry to the block of flats because he was drunk. He was shouting which caused disturbance."

The court heard that when officers arrived, Payne of St Paul's Hostel, Tallow Hill, Worcester called them derogatory names before he was arrested.

Also, on October 12 staff at Velvet Nightclub called the police because Payne, 23 was drunk and was "becoming a nuisance to a group of women" Miss Clewer said.

"When officers arrived he was unsteady on his feet and was slurring his words. He told an officer to 'do one' and was arrested."

Barry Newton, defending said: "He has problems with alcohol. He is quite a young man and has had problems with alcohol for a long time. Without being too disrespectful to his parents, there were issues with alcohol in his parenting as well."

Payne told the court "I have had a few problems with mental health. I admitted myself into hospital but they just said 'it's the drink' they wouldn't recognise that it's not, it's me."

When asked how he feels about being drunk in public, Payne said: "I don't like it, I don't want to do it but I have got problems and I turn to drink."

Payne was fined a total of £160. The case was heard on October 31.
