The war on drugs continues.

As we have reported today, seven arrests have been made during a week of raids by a police team who are targeting drug dealers.

While it can sometimes feel the war on drugs is a losing battle, as the supply chain into the county continues, it is vital the police are doing their best to combat the problem and are seen to do so.

And as Detective Sergeant Luke Papps said, he believes there has been a reduction in violent crime as a result of targeting drug dealers locally.

There are all too many people who think that police have given up the struggle, but our coverage shows that this is not the case.

Given the illegality of the drug trade, and the kind of people that it will attract, it is hardly surprising that the police have found the dealers are prepared to carry a range of dangerous and even deadly weapons.

Combating this problem is just as vital as dealing with the drugs themselves.

If the dealers can be persuaded – by whatever means necessary – that Worcester is not a great place for them to ply their trade, than all the rest of us win.
