THE Department for Education had plenty to say when it reported on Lady Hawkins School in Kington.
Jenny Hastings, a DfE advisor, said her trip to Lady Hawkins showed that students actively engaged in lessons and received a high quality of teaching.
“The heads of English and maths have high expectations for their subjects and are clear about how to achieve high standards.
“Good data tracking systems support student achievement,” she said.
She also found that students feel there is zero tolerance to bullying and feel they could talk to teachers if they found themselves the subject of bullying.
Headteacher Gary House said that students, staff and governors “should be very proud” of the result.
He said: “We are constantly seeking to improve our school with careful plans to develop learning and teaching and raise the aspirations and achievement of our students.
“The report shows we are on the right track to keep boosting our academic and sporting achievement in the main school and in the sixth form.”
