IF proof were needed that country air is good for you, it would probably look something like Dilys Williams.
The centenarian still gets up every day to farm in partnership with her two sons despite the fact she has just turned 100.
Dilys, who moved to her home near Hereford in 1944, helps wherever she can by feeding lambs or ‘pottering in the garden’ and makes no secret of her longevity.
“As the eldest farmer’s daughter, I was always used to hard work and I’ve never smoked or drunk,”
she said.
“I remember raking the fields and turning the hay by hand, whereas everything is done from the seat of a tractor these days.”
In addition, she is also a long-serving member at the local WI and Mothers’ Union, as well as a muchcherished customer at Barclays Bank, and received a special birthday card from the Queen in honour of the milestone.
Barclays’ agricultural manager Katharine Cripps said including her father, Dilys’ family had been with the bank for more than a century and had a great relationship with staff.
“The world has changed dramatically over the last century especially with the new technology in farming,”
Dilys added.
“But I’m glad to say the farming community still remains closely knit and supportive of each other in good times and bad.”
