ON behalf of the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen and Families’ Association (SSAFA) Forces Help, I thank the Hereford Welsh Social Club and in particular chairman Mick Bennett’s wife Chris and her daughter Sam for organising a wonderful charity night for SSAFA on December 17.
We do not yet know the final amount raised except it is more than £3,000, which will be used to help service people past and present and their dependants in the county. The evening was an unqualified success owed entirely to Chris's brilliant organisation of the evening and the support and sponsorship for prizes, entertainers etc obtained by Sam.
The highlight of the evening was the brilliantly executed Full Monty by the club football team.
Members and the committee of the Welsh Club all generously gave cooperation and donations. Almost as important as the money, was the opportunity to publicise the welfare work that SSAFA does throughout the country through its network of trained caseworkers.
