MUCH has been said about the selection of the venue for the 2018 World Cup.

Our dear Prince Wills, our Prince of Football and our Prime Minister, dear David, worked hard to bring it home.

They canvassed all of the other 21 Fifa decision makers who would cast their votes and enough of them said “yes, of course we are going to vote for England”, for our World Cup coalition to believe that it was in the bag, while being humble enough to say it's too close to call – while remembering we've all been lied to when canvassing.

Much of the blame for England getting only one other country to vote for us has been aimed at the media.

I, however, recommend fans to look elsewhere for the real culprit.

If I were a Tory I would be thinking my party is being led by a loser. Eighteen months ago the Tories looked set to win the General Election and two weeks ago England was going to win last Friday's vote.

Can it possibly be that Davids one and two are both losers? Beckham never won at top level and even got sent off at the World Cup.

Could it be that Cameron will be a three-time loser when he and his party get sent off at the next General Election?
