WITH reference to your publication of June 3, I find some really interesting articles in this newpaper that call for some comment.

The main topic of interest is of course the ESG, now in limbo it is reported.

Also we read of “cold comfort” from a report on dealing with winter weather - more lessons we should not have to learn all over once again. How often are we going to have to learn lessons over and over again, it just goes on and on. Where is it all going to end?

There was a short item on page eight about a £5 million bill for agency work, and an attempt to justify this expense.

Is it any wonder that this government is having to engage in a programme of cost-cutting to pay off huge deficits when we have things like this going on all over the country?

It just is not real as we read on page 10 about housing targets. I am afraid that there is much left to be desired from this council.

It does not get any better. Page 17 tells us that we shall not be able to make complaints about ‘silly’ gripes. This is surely not an attempt to surpress public comment?

People who present themselves to the electorate and become councillors should be aware of the fact that heartache and criticism is all part of that office.

So, not wishing to lengthen this letter too much, I say just this to those in office today: there will be some new ‘kids on the block’ come next May’s election. So hear this now, there are almost 12 months to go until the day of reckoning will come, so to coin a phrase I have written in previous letters, “get your act straight” and you may just survive next time around.
