BARBARA Evans (Hereford Times, July 9) asks apparently innocent questions about the funding of political parties, and in particular the campaign of Jesse Norman.
This is the same Barbara Evans who, as a senior member of the Labour Party, knows only too well how rigorous are the rules for disclosure of the sources of campaign funds.
So well, in fact, that her party takes advantage of an exemption that means they, unlike the Conservative Party, keep their details secret. She knows exactly where to look for all of the information which she claims to crave.
So come off it Barbara, don’t feign indignation and ignorance. Give credit that Jesse's successful campaign reflects his remarkable energy and public spirit as a local campaigner, and his popularity among those who believe that Hereford and South Herefordshire badly needs change and a stronger voice in Parliament – just as much as the country desperately needs to get rid of the government you support.
FRANK MYERS, Chairman, Hereford and South Herefordshire Conservative Association, Ross-on-Wye.
