PLEASE can anybody explain to me why Herefordshire Council has the monopoly on the sale of green garden waste sacks in the county?
They are available at the exorbitant cost of £5.64 for five bags, equalling £1.13p per bag?
I needed more bags for various gardening projects with the safe knowledge that when the bags were full and tied up they would be collected on black wheelie bin day, so I went to the Tourist Information Office and purchased 15 bags costing a ridiculous £16.92!
So then I started looking around at other places to buy green garden waste sacks and my findings make for interesting reading: Wilko: 10 garden refuse bags for £4.00, or 40p per bag.
Sainsbury: 10 garden sacks for £2.40, or 24p per bag.
Amazon: Charlie’s eco garden sacks: 10 bags £1.49, or 15p per bag.
The Range: 20 garden sacks for £2.49, or 12p per bag.

I could go on and on with prices comparisons but I won’t, what I do know is I feel ripped off, and I wonder why should Herefordshire Council have the monopoly on the sale of green bags!
In addition, the quality of Herefordshire Council’s green garden waste sacks is poor at best especially when each bag costs a staggering £1.13 per bag.
I also want the convenience of my garden waste sacks being collected and I don’t want the ridiculous rigmarole of booking a timed slot to go to the tip and potentially messing my car up and using my petrol to take them there, especially since I’m paying council tax on top of it all!
I know that towards the end of the year we are supposedly getting two more wheelie bins per household!
Is the council going to buy us all plots of land to house all these wheelie bins?
Stop the monopoly and give the public the right to purchase green garden waste sacks from where ever they want and at a sensible cost!
