Further to your article in The Hereford Times on 28th January, 2016, re. proposed Council Tax increases – this tax would not need to be increased if the council did not waste money.
In St Weonards a low cost housing development was planned over five years ago with the approval of residents, planners and a housing association.
The council spent a rumoured £18,000 making the roadway (called Church Hill) one way and building a pavement for the new houses to access the shop and the bus stop. Suddenly that plan was abandoned because the planners did not realise Church Hill was on a slope!
We now hear that the Council are in negotiation with the Duchy of Cornwall to develop houses on another site, outside the building line, which would also need changes to the main road and another pavement to access the shop, village hall and bus stop.
This site has not been agreed or accepted by the residents in the village and the waste of money on the previous plans is inexcusable.
I also feel there will be similar examples throughout the county.
I would be interested to hear the councils comments.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs. Christine Lewis
