THIS is a plea to Herefordshire Council to make sure that there will always be smallholdings to enable young people to get on the farming ladder.
I was not from a farming background but had always wanted to have a farm of my own.
In 1964 I got my chance when I was given a lifetime tenancy on a small farm of 30 acres in West Sussex.
I moved to Herefordshire 33 years ago to farm at Townsend Farm near Bromyard and it was a dream come true for me, having been born in Shropshire and spent a lot of my time as a child on a farm on the Brockhampton estate.
As a woman it was even harder to get on the farming ladder, so please make sure young farmers can get that chance.
VERE CONNOLLY Edwyn Ralph
