THE History Times photograph in the Hereford Times of July 23 was from the Three Choirs Festival and there were details in the caption which I would like to correct.
The photo was taken in 1949, not 1946 and it shows clergymen, lay clerks and choristers of the three cathedral choirs who took part with a much bigger chorus.
Lastly, 1949 was the last time Sir Percy Hull conducted the festival before retiring as organist and master of the choristers at Hereford Cathedral. The position was taken up by Meredith Davies who can be seen in the photograph on the right, one row up from the bottom sitting between Herbert Sumson and the Rev Ingram.
Like Michael Pogson who submitted the photograph and details, I am also in the photograph.
