PROFESSOR Clements, (Using Care Act to justify axing CAB, Letters, January 29) cites misuse of the Care Act, in respect of cutting of CAB funding by Herefordshire Council.
It would also seem that this piece of legislation is being misappropriated by the authority to justify demands to adults with learning disabilities (LDA) for increased contributions to care, of 30% or more.
The council are in the process of writing off bad debts, and are also investigating claims of overcharging by certain organisations who have provided services to adults with learning disabilities (paid for and managed by Herefordshire Council).
From these actions one might be moved to conclude that the most vulnerable members of our community are being targeted to make up the deficit in the council budget, an irony which is not lost, and which is hardly the action of a caring society.
