Fears over danger at roundabout I WISH to add my comments to the letter about the crossing at Whitecross roundabout in Hereford (Dangerous crossing by shops needs attention, Letters, November 6).

My husband is still recovering from an accident he had in February 2013 when he was knocked down while returning from the paper shop, sustaining a compound fracture to his femur and a badly bruised head.

Due to a car being parked where the pavement is lowered, he had to pass several other parked vehicles before he could cross the road safely. Despite taking every precaution, he was knocked down and dragged along the road.

I have been in touch with St Nicholas ward councillors to try and get safety improvements made and they have been very helpful. I understand that there is some work in the pipeline but I doubt if this will be sufficient.

This road should be made one-way, with traffic entering off the Yazor Road end and exiting on to Whitecross Road, with a speed limit introduced.

Also the road could easily be widened. The width of the pavement near the post box is ridiculous, and there is no need for so much hedge. It is of little use cutting it back – it needs to be taken out.

Each morning and afternoon, children stream across this road, some using scooters and bicycles.

The cost of these alterations cannot be comparable to that of someone being knocked over and possibly killed.

After 20 months, my husband is still having to use crutches and is in constant pain.

I sincerely hope that something will now be done and not put off due to lack of funds.
