I READ in the Hereford Times (January 24) an article expressing the view that Hereford could lose its farmers’ market if hopelessly unrealistic Herefordshire Council will not cut ground rent in the city centre.
Hereford is looking in a sorry state with so many empty shops, particularly at the far end of Commercial Street, and fire damaged properties opposite the Old House.
The farmers’ market and market stalls in general bring life and colour to the city centre.
If our farmers cease to trade in the city there is a risk of fewer people visiting to shop.
Please, Herefordshire Council, do all you can to support and encourage local food producers to participate in the city centre market.
