POLICE have launched an appeal after two businesses were broken into in Ledbury.
A burglary occured at LDA Meats on Lower Road Trading Estate between 8pm on Friday December 19 and 5.50am the following morning.
Pete Butcher, police press officer, said burglars appeared to incapacitate the external alarm, smashed a small window to the premises and entered the officer to steal a small safe containing keys and money.
The safe was later abandoned in a field on Little Marcle Road about a mile and a half away, minus the contents.
There was also an attempted burglary at Countryworld Stores in Dymock Road between 5.30pm on Sunday, January 4 and 7am the following day.
Police believe thieves forced the boundary fencing and climbed onto the roof, making holes in order to enter the property.
It is not thught that any entry was actually made.
Mr Butcher said that at this stage police are not linking the two offences but urges owners of commerical premises in the area to be vigilent and ensure that their security is thorough.
Anyone with any information should call PC Debbie Huggins at Ledbury Police Station on 0300 333 3000.
